I come from software and web dev. I used to be one of “them”, so I’m feeling comfortable with criticising.

I’d love to see more developers dive into design and try to understand why it is important and how to make it work. Too many times I find myself fighting with them instead of cooperating.

As for the desktop mindset, I think mobile-first is totally overrated in some cases. The context of this design is in an admin tool that nobody is ever going to use from a mobile phone.
